How can you expect your life to improve if you can’t decide on what that improvement will be?

Have you ever been to the grocery store with someone, or out to dinner, and they just can’t make up their mind? Think about how many foolish things you purchase from the grocer, or the same-old same-old you keep ordering at the restaurant. Did you settle for the fucking club sandwich again?
How can you expect your life to improve if you can’t decide on what that improvement will be?
Your brain is a powerful organ, incalculable times more efficient and rapid than any computer. It gets shit done. So why aren’t you putting it to use?
Cognitive scientist Donald Hoffman teaches us that neuroplasticity (the brain’s ability to cultivate and reorganize synaptic connections) is key to manifesting a better future. Want to get from Point A to Point Z? The only way there is through all those other letters. This is where neuroplasticity really shines.
The more valuable the information, the more durable and numerous the synaptic connections in our brains become. Manifesting your future is not wishing for a Bugatti to show up in your drive and low and behold the next morning…! Manifesting your future begins with telling your brain where you want to be, and educating it on the precise steps that have to happen in order for you to get there. It really is that simple.
Let’s say you want to land a literary agent who will help you find homes for the books you write. Do you just start writing like mad, thinking and thinking up all kinds of wild stuff, and then spell check it really, really good before emailing it off to numerous agents you feel will be a good fit? Do you think that works? Let me make it easy on you: it does not.
There’s an old proverb: how do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. Now, I’m certainly not condoning barbecued elephant, but I’m sure you get the point.
Train your brain. Tell it what the next logical step is and then educate it on what you need to achieve to make that next step come true. For instance, if you’re the aspiring writer in the scenario above, maybe a good first step is to read. Like read A WHOLE BUNCH of books. Maybe even spend an entire year doing nothing but reading with no writing.
Sounds rough, doesn’t it. Maybe tedious, boring. Reading let’s say 10 books before Christmas sounds impossible.
It’s not. This is you with your nose to the grindstone, paying your dues, actually working productively toward the end goal of landing a powerful literary agent. And I’m sorry if you were expecting anything else but this is very likely (some writers are just amazing fucking superstars) the only way it’s going to work. How can I say this? Because this is how I landed my literary agent. In fact, he reached out to me.
Train your brain. Because your brain is stupid. It can’t think of new ideas, powerful driving emotions that set you on the path to success. You need to show it, teach it, tell it what to do, step by step. I do this using meditation and mindfulness, both to flesh out a crystal clear path and to actually imagine myself accomplishing ONE STEP AT A TIME. Do this, and you’ll be amazed at how many steps after steps after goals after goals you begin to absolutely crush!
